International Certification Board (ICB) and Testing, Adjusting and Balancing Bureau (TABB)

A function of the National Energy Management Institute (NEMI), the ICB's mission is to direct and implement a comprehensive set of certification programs.

Certification is a third-party verification that an individual possesses the knowledge, skills and abilities to do a job. ICB-certified professionals are recognized as the most competent, reliable and qualified in the HVAC industry.

Sheet Metal Occupational Health Institute Trust (SMOHIT)

SMOHIT offers the highest quality of safety training available, making the workforce more productive and efficient. The well-being of sheet metal workers remains, as always, its primary focus. SMOHIT, which is also jointly sponsored by SMART and SMACNA:

  • Monitors and documents the health of union sheet metal workers related to workplace exposure and hazards through the Workplace Exposure Research Program
  • Provides safety information and training to promote best practices on and off the job through training
  • Advocates for the physical, mental and emotional health and safety of SMART and SMACNA members with like-minded, allied organizations
  • Provides diet, exercise and other lifestyle information to address the health and wellness of union members and contractors
